EMMC Seminar Offers Hope for Patients with Weight Issues

(Bangor, Maine) – Less than 5 percent of people who need to lose a significant amount of weight can lose it and maintain the weight loss on their own. For many individuals carrying 100 pounds of excess weight, the answer may be weight loss surgery.
Community members who have struggled with their weight and would like to learn more about weight loss surgery are invited to a free educational seminar offered by EMMC Surgical Weight Loss on Tuesday, March 15 in Bangor. Attendees will receive an overview of EMMC’s comprehensive program, which includes nutritional information, exercise plans, all aspects of the three different kinds of surgery, and support.
“Individuals are invited to attend the seminar and stay after for a support group,” says Fariba Dayhim, MD, FACS, FASMBS, bariatric surgeon, medical bariatrician, and certified nutrition specialist, at EMMC Surgical Weight Loss, who will be presenting at the support group. “Attendees can get their questions answered personally and meet patients who have achieved great success after weight loss surgery.”
The seminar takes place at EMMC from 2 to 4 pm, with the support group from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. To find out if you meet the qualifications for surgery, or to register to attend the seminar, call 973-6383. Visit swl.emmc.org for more information.
