EMMC Joins National Stroke Network

EMMC recently joined the National Institutes of Health StrokeNET, a federally funded program that develops clinical trials for stroke prevention, treatment, and recovery. Joining top academic medical centers in New England, EMMC will work with the coordinating hub, New England Regional Coordinating Center (NERCC), located at Massachusetts General Hospital, to conduct research and advance potential treatments for patients with stroke and those at risk for stroke.

“Being part of this network allows us to offer our patients access to leading-edge clinical stroke trials, previously only available in Boston,” explains Gillian Gordon Perue, MBBS, DM, medical director, EMMC Stroke Care. “It is one more way our patients can be reassured they are getting the best stroke care possible close to home.”

As a primary stroke center certified by The Joint Commission, Eastern Maine Medical Center leads the way in national best practices for response and treatment of stroke patients. “We are proud to participate and advance the science behind future treatment of stroke,” continues Dr. Gordon Perue.
