Partnership Gives Children with Cancer a Week at Camp

(Bangor, Maine) – A partnership between Eastern Maine Medical Center and the Bangor YMCA is helping children diagnosed with cancer have the opportunity to enjoy a week of summer camp. Held at the YMCA Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan in Ellsworth from June 24 to 30, kids will learn new skills, get outside to swim, boat, hike, and build campfires, as well as build relationships that will last a lifetime.
The setting allows campers and their families to celebrate doing things kids love to do, without thinking about being sick. Attendees find comfort in the fact that others at camp have walked a similar path and to meet the unique healthcare needs of campers, a team of professionals from Eastern Maine Medical Center is on hand at all times.
Parents accompany children age four to seven, and siblings are welcome to attend. Campers and their families look forward to the experience all year long. The annual camp is made possible thanks to the generous support of an anonymous donor through the EMHS Foundation.
Members of the media are invited to visit camp and talk with campers, camp organizers, and representatives from the partner organizations on the morning of Monday, June 25 at Camp Jordan. For planning purposes and to schedule a time, kindly let us know if you plan to attend by contacting us at or 973-9530.
