EMMC Receives Grant to Implement a Pharmacy-Led Smoking Cessation Program

Congratulations to Antoine Harb, MD, hematologist and oncologist, Adult Oncology, EMMC Cancer Care, Miller Drug, and the EMMC Clinical Research Center on their recent grant from Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society (NNECOS) to study The Efficacy of a Pharmacist‐led Smoking Cessation Intervention for Oncology Patients.

Matthew Marston, PharmD, a member of NNECOS and a board certified oncology pharmacist, will provide administrative oversight of Miller Drug’s protocol and participate in counseling and treatment for oncology patients.  Dr. Harb, principal investigator, will provide valuable insights on the replicability of this protocol for other NNECOS members and oncology practices throughout the region.

During the grant period, March 2018 to March 2019, all patients 18 years or older at EMMC Cancer Care will be screened for smoking use and invited to participate in the study. Participants must identify as daily smokers and be motivated to quit smoking in the next 30 days.
