Eric Hafener

Eric.jpgFunction in the hospital: Eric, vice president of compliance and privacy, helps Eastern Maine Medical Center navigate Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing, healthcare privacy, risk management, and other compliance and risk-related issues. His day-to-day work is threefold: help prevent compliance issues through education and process development, identify issues though audits and inspections, and lead the organization’s response when problems are found.

The road to here:  Eric’s professional career has taken him to New York and Washington, D.C., in addition to the time he has spent in Maine. He earned an undergraduate degree in marketing from Hofstra University and an MBA in management at Hood College. Before joining Eastern Maine Medical Center, Eric served as a special agent for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General for 19 years. He investigated Medicare and Medicaid fraud, ensuring the integrity of these publically-funded healthcare programs.
 
What he's trying to do: Be a trusted resource for physicians and employees, helping them navigate the complex world of healthcare compliance. Eric is always available to anyone who has questions or concerns.
