No one plans for an emergency, but if something unexpected should happen, the medical resources you need are available at EMMC. As the regional referral center for the northern two thirds of Maine, our team of emergency care professionals provide care for more than 40,000 patients each year in their most urgent time of need. EMMC is here to help people. While our Emergency Department is busy and its patients and families are often under tremendous stress, and violence can sometimes be a manifestation of illness, we take care to be sure the environment promotes a safe and secure place for people to receive care.
Because we are an American College of Surgeons verified Level II Trauma Center, the communities we serve can be confident they have access to the most advanced, safest care possible. What’s more, patients who choose EMMC for their emergency care also have access to the resources of nearly 300 expert physicians and surgeons on the EMMC medical staff, and a highly skilled care team.

Getting the right care at the right time is very important during an emergency. For some emergencies, it is important to go to the Emergency Department right away, while your primary care provider our EMMC's Walk-In Care is more appropriate for minor injuries and illnesses.
