Sometimes when we need medical care, it has to happen right away, even if it interferes with celebrating a special day. Thanks to the caring staff at the Outpatient Surgery Center, a special day that could have been missed turned out to be one to remember.
Carol Silsby, RN, learned that her patient was having a procedure on his 52nd wedding anniversary, and she was determined to help the family celebrate this important milestone.
Carol arranged for a surprise party in the recovery room. She ordered a cake, and gathered the staff to visit the patient and his wife and congratulate them on 52 years of marriage. The family was surprised and overwhelmed by the gesture, and thrilled that the staff had taken the time to acknowledge their nniversary.
Because Carol went the extra mile, her patient and his wife were able to celebrate more than half a century of commitment. Her co-workers were so impressed with her actions that they nominated her for a Splash award, EMMC's highest recognition for employees who exceed expectations while caring for patients, families, communities, and one another.
