The Pediatric Specialty Services at EMMC provide consultation, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of complicated conditions in a supportive, family-oriented environment. The fellowship-trained and board certified pediatric specialists are supported by psychologists, counselors, nurses, social workers, child life specialists, physical therapists, audiologists, speech/language pathologist, occupational therapists, therapeutic dietitians, and administrative staff. We deal with cancer and blood disorders, birth defects, genetic conditions, metabolic disorders, developmental disabilities, diabetes mellitus, pediatric endocrine disorder, and other complex disorders.

The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Programs at Eastern Maine Medical Center are dedicated to providing quality care for children with cancer and blood disorders in eastern, central, and northern Maine. We are a member of the Children's Oncology Group, the National Cancer Institute-supported trials cooperative group devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research.
The Oncology Program offers cancer evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and long term follow up of childhood cancer. We also offer social services: assessing patient and family for general or specific needs related to diagnosis, identifying emotional issues, and providing outpatient and inpatient service for continuity of care. We can arrange home visits, help families manage financial stress, and activities at Camp Rainbow, a summer camp experience for ill children.
The Hematology Program offers evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow up of pediatric blood disorders, including:
- Coagulation disorders, such as Von Willebrand's disease, platelet disorders, thrombophilia, and hemophilia
- Red blood cell disorders
- Anemias (acquired and congenital)
The Genetics Clinic provides consultation and management services for children and adults with known or suspected genetic disorders, such as Down syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, Neurofibromatosis, Marfan syndrome, skeletal dysplasias, Huntington disease and many others.

Cystic Fibrosis Clinic
The Cystic Fibrosis Clinic coordinates the care of children and adults with cystic fibrosis.
Manages children and adults with inborn errors of metabolism, such as:
- Phenylketonuria (PKU)
- Medium Chain Acyl-Co Dehydrogenase deficiency (MCAD)
- Amino acid and fatty acid abnormalities
- Biotinidase deficiency
Cleft Palate Clinic
The Cleft Palate Clinic evaluates and manages children with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other craniofacial disorders.
The Developmental Evaluation Clinic
The Developmental Evaluation Clinic provides interdisciplinary evaluation services for
medically complex infants and preschoolers (ages birth-5 years old), including metabolic and genetic disorders, autism, pervasive developmental disorders, attention/learning disorders, and attachment disorders.
Spina Bifida Clinic
The Spina Bifida Clinic provides consultation and management for children and adults with spina bifida.
Specialty Psychology Clinic
Offers specialized and individualized psychological assessments/consultations by fellowship-trained pediatric/clinical psychologists.
Individual and Family Psychotherapy Services
Provides goal-oriented, solution-focused, and coping skills-based psychotherapy services for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, including ADHD and learning disabilities.
Group Psychotherapy Services
Provides structured psychotherapy and social skills groups for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, including ADHD and learning disabilities
Developmental Education Team Clinic
The Developmental Education Team evaluates school-age children with complicated medical/developmental disorders, including autism, mental retardation, multiple disabilities, sensory impairments, and other low-incidence disabilities.
The ADHD Clinic is based on the ADHD team evaluation model developed by Dr. Russell Barkley at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and provides interdisciplinary diagnostic and consultative psychological services for children with attentional challenges or disorders.
Learning Disabilities Clinic
The Learning Disabilities Clinic offers two day comprehensive, interdisciplinary and
independent team evaluation of developmental dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
