What is NNETS?
The Northern New England Telemedicine System (NNETS) was established in 1996 to provide an interactive communication system linking Maine's healthcare providers. To participate, each NNETS location has a video conferencing unit. Two-way video and audio allow people to see and hear one another. The system currently operates at near broadcast quality. If your organization would like to get started using NNETS, please contact the NNETS coordinator in your area regarding information on upcoming events, clinical consultation needs, presentation or regarding questions you may have.
Continuing Education and Medical Education
Fulfilling continuing education requirements can be a challenge, particularly for medical professionals in remote areas of Maine. Recognizing the tremendous benefit of a coordinated education system, NNETS is available to view these programs remotely.
Clinical Consultations
A primary goal of NNETS is to enhance patient care through the use of video-conferencing as a telemedicine tool. The range of use is wide open and the benefits are immeasurable. Patients taking part in clinical consultations do not have to travel significant distances. Collaboration between specialists and primary care givers is facilitated and enhanced using videoconferencing.
Meetings
NNETS participants can hold meetings via videoconferencing with other NNETS participants or anyone that has videoconferencing capabilities with anyone located anywhere in Maine or around the globe.
As scheduling permits, community organizations and businesses are able to use NNETS videoconferencing equipment. For information regarding community use and operating fees, please contact the individual NNETS coordinator directly.
