(Bangor, Maine) – Mainers facing breast cancer have a new option for this new year as EMMC opened the state’s first dedicated breast surgical practice on January 2, 2013. The EMMC Breast Surgical Specialists office, located on the third floor of EMMC’s Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer, offers patients convenient access to pre and post-surgical services as well as medical and radiation oncology, genetic research, nurse navigation, behavioral therapy, and a survivor clinic.
“Within the first week of providing care, patients are already telling us our dedicated focus and location are making a difference,” says Elaine Chambers, RN, MS, nurse manager. “One patient was seeing her medical oncologist on the second floor, and was referred up to our practice for further testing. The patient simply took the elevator up one floor, and underwent the requested procedure. This streamlined process is expediting the patient’s care by days. EMMC is proud to be the first provider in the region to offer access to this important level of coordinated care.”
Employees, providers, and community members are invited to attend an EMMC Breast Surgical Specialists Open House on Thursday, January 10 from 4 to 7 pm on the third floor of the Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer.
Editor’s Note: Media interested in touring the facility, interviewing members of EMMC Breast Surgical Specialists, or attending the open house (ribbon cutting at 4:15 pm) should contact EMMC’s media line at 973-9530.
