Pregnant women who are at increased risk for potential complications because of family history or a medical condition like high blood pressure or diabetes require specialized attention. The Maternal-Fetal Medicine department within Eastern Maine Medical Center cares for an average of 1,600 women a year, providing the following services:
- preconceptual counseling
- genetic counseling
- prenatal diagnosis and screening
- consultation on high risk pregnancy
- targeted fetal ultrasound
- antepartum testing
- amniocentesis from 12 weeks
- cordocentesis from 18 weeks
- doppler and color flow doppler ultrasound
