Equipment Procurement Approach

  • The Solar turbine (Centaur 50) was selected based on a proven track record and experience with the size required for EMMC. This major piece of equipment was negotiated and priced in the early phases of the project.
  • The Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) was bid competitively by three companies that pre-qualified based on experience and track record. Deltak was selected for their experience and price.
  • The electrical switchgear for this project was put out to bid to three major switchgear providers. Square D gear was purchased based on many factors including quality, pricing, and past experience.
  • This project included a black-start ability in case of utility and turbine failure, so a 600 amp transfer switch was purchased from ASCO (due to internal EMMC standards on the type of transfer switch required).
  • The 500 ton steam absorption chiller for the project was competitively bid; however due to size constraints on what would fit into the existing space, a Trane chiller was selected.
  • The cooling tower for this project was put out to bid to three suppliers and Marley was selected based on price, experience, and past track record.
  • The Energy/Building Management System for this project was negotiated and discussed during the initial phases of this project and a decision to utilize Honeywell was made due to existing equipment in place.
  • All other components of this project were competitively bid as necessary with the exception of equipment that was added to existing equipment.
