Behavioral medicine is a multidisciplinary field concerned with the association between behavior and health. Areas of research and clinical practice include disease prevention and wellness (such as quitting smoking or maintaining exercise and good eating habits), illness management and adjustment (such as chronic illnesses of diabetes, cancer, heart disease) and pain and symptom management and rehabilitation. Clinical psychologists who have specialized training in behavioral medicine staff behavioral medicine services, but physicians, nurses, counselors and other professionals also work in the broad field of behavioral medicine.
