Support Groups
Sometimes the best medicine is understanding, support, and being able to borrow from the experience of others. So, physicians and staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center encourage participation in support groups. Support group participants say the most important benefit is "knowing I'm not alone." The chance to share perspectives with others going through similar experiences makes the process more manageable.

We invite you to learn more about the support groups and educational programs available through Cancer Care of Maine:
Support Groups:

Cancer Registry
Eastern Maine Medical Center maintains a cancer registry. Our staff records cancer diagnoses as well as information pertinent to the diagnosis and care progress all of which is reported to the State of Maine. The registry follows individuals from the time of diagnosis through treatment and their years beyond treatment. The registry tracks the incidence and types of cancer diagnosed and treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

As a requirement of our accreditation through the American College of Surgeons – Commission on Cancer, we produce an annual Report on Cancer highlighting the trends we experience at EMMC.

For a report, simply click on the year you’d like to review – 2012 2011 , 2009 & 2010 ,  2008 , 200720062005.

To assure excellence in care, the registry hosts a weekly interdisciplinary physician case review. The review team consists of pathologists, radiologists, surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, genetics staff, primary care physicians, research staff, nursing and social work. Physicians are welcome to refer cases and can oftentimes participate via interactive television. Allied health professionals are welcome to attend also. Meetings are held Wednesdays, 7:30 to 8:30 am in Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Governance Room. Providers interested in learning more about the registry, or to make a referral, can contact 207-973-7483 or cancerregistry@emh.org
