· Treating hematological malignacies such as lymphoma and leukemia;
· Treating hemoglobinopathies (a kind of genetic defect that results in abnormal structure of one of the globin chains of the hemoglobin molecule. Common hemoglobinopathies include sickle-cell disease and thalassemia); and
· In the science of blood transfusion and the work of a blood bank.

Many patients are referred to us each year for management of blood related disorders. Coming to a center with cancer in its name can be intimidating. We want to assure you that if you've been referred to us for a blood related concern it does not mean that you have a cancer diagnosis. If your referring provider had a concern about that possibility, he or she would have informed you prior to making the appointment with us.
